Mark ‘The English Guy’ McDowall
Born and raised in Yateley, Surrey, England, I have always enjoyed movies and music — the louder the better, much to the annoyance of my parents! After moving to US 12 years ago, I began my A/V career at a major consumer electronics retailer, where I spent the next 8 years selling home audio/video and car audio products, along with the installation and parts needed to finish the system.
When I moved to Phoenix, I was asked to work in the new “high end” portion of their home theater department, which I did for 2 years. I found I really enjoyed the higher-end and more custom side of home theater, so I decided to further my career at Showcase Home Entertainment, part of the Tweeter company.
During my time there, I worked with such clients as Shaquielle O’Neal as well as numerous high profile business people and local politicians, all looking to establish or improve their ideal home entertainment experience. I helped design systems for multi-million dollar homes in Paradise Valley, Scottsdale, Chandler, Phoenix, Sun City, and Anthem.
When Tweeter and Showcase succumbed to economic problems, I gathered a team of hand-picked experts in the home theater field and decided to step out on my own to start The English Guy Home Entertainment Solutions.
Our goal is to use our vast knowledge and experience, as well as many of our own innovative ideas, to provide you with a home entertainment solution specific to your wants, needs, and budget. We love the challenge of custom home entertainment design, and always look forward to the next project!

John is The English Guy’s right-hand man when it comes to the installation of your new home theater products. John has a vast knowledge of home construction, which gives him the ability to figure out how to get a TV or a speaker almost anywhere in your home. He has an intense dislike for mess so he will leave your home looking like we were never there!
Scott Johnson (aka Obiwan)
A die-hard Manchester United fan, but please don’t hold that against him! A great father and husband, Scott has been in the A/V industry for longer than he is willing to admit. An expert in all things audio-related, Scott will design the perfect system for you, whether it be a little bit of background music, a full-blown home theater system, or a multi-zone audio system for music all over your house.
Wil ‘That Guy’ Johnson
In the ever-changing technology world, you need to stay up on the latest electronic trends and advancements. Wil prides himself on knowing the latest and greatest of home audio, video, and the steadily growing home networking fields. The computer brains of the team, he specializes in computer networking and intergration with home theater systems. Have an idea and he will run away with it… Just don’t call him a ‘nerd’!
